A plot that sat idle for seven years is now a banana field

The owner lives outside Kerala and had not farmed the plot since the family stopped cultivating it. Rubber saplings had come up on their own, the well was silted, and the access path had disappeared under growth.

After the parcel was listed on the platform, our operations team walked the boundary, confirmed the well still held water through summer, and marked the plot verified.

Soil results came back low in organic carbon, so the plan started with cattle manure and green-leaf mulching before planting. Pits were dug on 2 metre spacing and drip lines were run from the well.

Each stage — land prep, planting, feeding, pest watch — was closed on the app by the field team with a photo and a GPS stamp, so the owner could follow the work from outside the state.

The first bunches were harvested this season and logged against the parcel, so every crate carries a batch code that traces back to this plot.

The owner takes a share of the sale value plus produce credit that can be spent in our shop. The plot stays in cultivation for the next cycle, and the same SHG team continues on it.
